BMI
Body Mass Index
A Simple Calculation of your BMI to see where you stand!...
What is BMI?
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a number calculated from a person's weight and height. BMI is a fairly reliable indicator of body fatness for most people. BMI does not measure body fat directly, but research has shown that BMI correlates to direct measures of body fat, such as underwater weighing and dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA). BMI can be considered an alternative for direct measures of body fat. Additionally, BMI is an inexpensive and easy-to-perform method of screening for weight categories that may lead to health problems.
To determine if you’re a candidate, enter your information in the boxes below and click on “Calculate BMI.”
BMI
< 16.5
Your weight is within a normal range for your height. Concentrate on getting regular exercise and making healthy food choices to prevent weight gain.
BMI
≥16.5 ‒ ≤18.5
BMI
30 or Higher
Assuming you do not have extra muscle mass or a large skeletal frame your weight falls into the overweight range. This means you have a slightly increased risk for health problems like heart disease, diabetes and hypertension. The good news is that through healthy eating and regular physical activity, you can reduce both your weight and disease risks. And to maintain your success, focus on consistent, small changes that you can build into your lifestyle.
Your BMI indicates you may be at an increased risk for developing health problems caused by being overweight. Weight loss could benefit your health. Other factors such as your medical condition, need to be considered when selecting a treatment plan. Many OPTIFAST Programs offer options to treat people who have a BMI such as yours.
Your weight is less than ideal for your height based on present height/weight tables and weight loss would not be appropriate for you at this time.

The Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the amount of energy you need while resting in a temperate environment during the post-absorptive state, or when your digestive system is inactive. In such a state, your energy will be used only to maintain your vital organs, which include the heart, lungs, kidneys, the nervous system, intestines, liver, lungs, sex organs, muscles, and skin. The BMR decreases with age and increases with muscle mass.
